Is your closet jam-packed yet you never have anything to wear? Do you find yourself always grabbing your favorite jeans, sweater, and leggings? So why do many of us feel that more is better when it comes to clothes? Perhaps it stems back to middle school when having the right fashion labels meant everything. Now that we are older and wiser, we know that clothes do not make the woman. A great smile and attitude win over designer jeans any day of the week. But where do we start when it comes to decluttering our wardrobe?
Give these “Declutter Your Wardrobe – Top 5 Tips” a try!
1. Stop Shopping
I know a good sale is hard to resist but guess what? Don’t buy that purse and you will actually save 100%! You are not going to find a better sale than that. Take the money you save and put it towards paying off debt. That will feel better than any piece of clothing will ever make you feel.
2. Donate or Throw Away Old Clothes
Before you toss that old shirt into the trash, see if you can donate it. There are agencies such as Big Brother and Big Sister, and the Epilepsy Foundation that will come and pick up your old clothing. You can also put your old clothes into garbage bags and toss them into your trunk. When you are out, look for the large bins in parking lots that collect clothes and shoes for various charities.
3. Stick to Your Favorite Colors
We all have favorite colors that we love to wear. If you make it a point to wear these favorite colors more often, you will always feel and look great. When you stick to just a few colors in your wardrobe, you can easily mix and match different clothing pieces and accessories.
4. You Only Need One
If you ask yourself, “Which pair of sandals should I keep?” when you are decluttering your wardrobe you probably have too many. If you only keep one or two of everything you might need, you will have much more closet space, and you will end up with your favorites of everything.
5. Buy Quality Items
A simple wardrobe means that you will be wearing these clothes in various combinations a large portion of the time. This means that you will want to purchase much higher quality, durable items. This can also save you money in the long run, because you aren't going to have to replace clothes as often.
I hope you are excited to declutter your wardrobe. Even if you just incorporate one or two of these tips into your daily life, you will have a closet full of clothes that you actually wear and LOVE in no time!
