Preparation is key
Stocking up on trash bags, cardboard boxes, and cleaning products before you start not only helps you to get into the right frame of mind for the task ahead but gives you a quick way to remove unwanted items from the room. If you're prone to getting bored with household tasks easily, enlist somebody to help you. Having your husband or friend there will not only keep you entertained but also halves the time the job will take!
Split the room into sections
It can be frustrating not knowing where to start when it comes to a larger room. Try dividing the room into sections, and focus on one part at a time. Whether it's a bookshelf, drawer, or even a corner of the room, by breaking decluttering down into manageable chunks the task suddenly doesn't feel as scary.

We often want to hold onto junk because it's been around for so long, that we almost get a sentimental attachment to it. This technique is also great in helping you make more decisive choices when throwing stuff out – the quicker you can get it done, the quicker you'll be finished!
